In the 1930s, Mrs Gabrielle Patterson was the flying instructor for the S.E. Staffs Aero Club at Walsall Airport, which opened on the 6th July 1935. At the outbreak of war, Mrs Patterson, with a colleague, Mrs Grace Brown, was transferred to the Air Transport Auxiliary Service (ATA), flying all types of RAF planes to various destinations.

Maureen Browning nee Richardson had to make an emergency landing at the old Aldridge Airport in a Tiger Moth in early 1962. Flying had finished there and it was used for sports. Maureen landed 15 minutes before football kick-off and took off again for Wolverhampton while the football game was in progress. This was mentioned in all the local newspapers and radio

Walsall's last Harvard aircraft, was one of a number of aircraft that were serviced at Aldridge Airport including Bostons, Ansons, and Seafires.

Amy Johnson at Aldridge Airport in 1932
The internationally famous flyer, Amy Johnson, was a regular at Aldridge Airport, Walsall, with her Kirby Kite Glider. On the 2nd July 1938, at a Midlands Gliding Club event, she hit a hedge while attempting to land, turning the plane over, fortunately suffering only minor injuries. Read more about Amy Johnson

Aldridge Airport Outdoor Activity and Environmental Learning Centre
Built in April 2007 with facilities which include a classroom, community room, changing rooms and an adventure rope course.

These facilities will be used by the whole community to develop skills and vocational training through the council or other organisations including Connexions, Walsall Safer Borough Partnership and NACRO.

There are a range of outward bound courses for all ages including high aerial trekking, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking and RYA level one and two sailing as well as taster and sailability sessions for people with disabilities.

Management at the centre said "We have these excellent facilities where we can provide sessions for school, community associations, youth groups and corporate days.

It will be very exciting to try aerial trekking, climbing or sailing � give us a call and have a go! Plus it is a really different way to keep fit.�

Rosie's Walk
This is the largest anual summer event in Aldridge, Walsall for all the family, which includes various attractions, each year such as Bands, Dance teams, Children�s Entertainers and shows, local rock bands, and art and craft activities, to make the day fun for everyone, even for the non walker who just wants to be there helping to raise lots of money for local children and young people�s charitable activities.
