Aldridge tip & recyling centre
Walsall, WS9, West Midlands UK.

The local ( household, waste and recycling centre ) "rubbish tip" available for residents in Aldridge area is located at:

Merchants Way, Aldridge, Walsall, West midlands WS9 8SW.
The centre will receive household waste which residents are unable to place in their "wheelie" bins, such as garden waste or bulky household items. The containers for household wastes are segregated to allow maximum recycling by type of product. Residents in Walsall borough are encouraged to recycle as much as possible to help meet challenging recycling targets set by the government. The more that is recycled, the less will have to go to expensive landfill sites. Please separate your waste by material type prior to arrival on site in order to save you time and make it easier to recycle in the appropriate container.

The table below gives more information.

Types of plastic

There are about 50 different groups of plastics, with hundreds of different varieties. All types of plastic are recyclable in terms of technology, but not in terms of daily practice. To make sorting and thus recycling easier, the American Society of Plastics Industry developed a standard marking code ( the triangle with a code number ) to help consumers identify and sort the main types of plastic. These types and their most common uses are:

1

PET

Polyethylene terephthalate - Fizzy drink bottles and oven-ready meal trays.

2

HDPE

High-density polyethylene - Bottles for milk and washing-up liquids.

3

PVC

Polyvinyl chloride - Food trays, cling film, bottles for squash, mineral water and shampoo.

4

LDPE

Low density polyethylene - Carrier bags and bin liners.

5

PP

Polypropylene - Margarine tubs, microwaveable meal trays.

6

PS

Polystyrene - Yoghurt pots, foam meat or fish trays, hamburger boxes and egg cartons, vending cups, plastic cutlery, protective packaging for electronic goods and toys.

7

OTHER

Any other plastics that do not fall into any of the above categories. - An example is melamine, which is often used in plastic plates and cups.

Note, there are a number of organisations and charities who can take a wide range of products of value for re use or recycling, such as paint, ink cartidges, mobile phones, tools, equipment, household goods, and furniture.
