Royal Sutton Coldfield Canoe Club
Aldridge, Walsall, WS9, West Midlands UK.

Welcome to The Royal Sutton Coldfield Canoe Club.

Rushall Olympic Football Club, Dales Lane, Rushall, Walsall, WS4 1LJ, just off Bosty Lane in Aldridge

The club was recently "evicted" from Aldridge Marina after the Marina Owners unfarily increased their mooring fees to over £4,000 a year! Everyone in the Canoe club is thrilled with their new home, and is looking forward to operating from here. Rushall Olympic Football Club has many more facilities to offer our Canoe Club members. We would like to thank the football club committe for offering us a new home.

The Club was formed in 1990 to meet the needs of canoeists in the area, and currently has around 100 members.

Royal Sutton Coldfield Canoe Club meets on Saturday afternoons between 2pm to 5pm throughout the whole year. Our canoe centre is the 63’ narrowboat, “The Dhow”.

During British Summer Time, the club also meets on Monday nights between 6pm – 8pm on Blackroot Pool in Sutton Park.

Also Wednesday nights between 6pm – 8pm at Aldridge Marina.

Newcomers are always welcome to any session. You are advised to arrive promptly on the canal sessions, before everyone disappears down the canal!

The club can provide everything you would require, canoes, buoyancy aids, paddles, and tuition, plus insurance cover, for a small charge. We have kayaks suitable for children and adults alike. Unlike some sports, you can take up canoeing at any age. Royal Sutton Coldfield Canoe Club is family orientated, with a number of family members who enjoy quality time together.

Regular and varied river trips are run most months (weather and water permitting), embracing a broad spectrum of waterways from placid to white water. Again, everything can be hired from the club for a small charge, and transport provided on a cost sharing basis. River trips range from introductory sessions, to “full on” white water. These tours are led by experienced canoeists who know the rivers and their hazards. Informal tuition is usually available to assist beginners and boost confidence.

Canoeing is a great outdoor activity. It can be calming when you are stressed, or full of white water adrenalin pumping excitement and adventure. It is also a great way to enjoy nature, with adults and children alike being introduced to their first kingfisher, heron, or crayfish!

Club members and visitors are welcome to just ‘mess about on the river’, or canal. However, if you wish to improve your paddling skills, Royal Sutton Coldfield Canoe Club can also help train you to pass skills, or “Star” tests, up to 3 Star level. We can provide an extensive coaching programme, and have a number of trained and registered coaches. The Club is affiliated to the British Canoe Union and Canoe England.

Coaching is provided to cover skills for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, local schools, colleges, youth groups, scouts and guides.

If you would like to know more about the Canoe Club, our group coaching, or would like to come along to try us out, please call Sarah on 07967 645055 or 01922 424210.
